Billing

How and when you actually pay the BooTickets fee.

BooTickets charges 1% of what you sell — see Pricing for the rate itself, who can absorb it, and how it interacts with your payment provider's own card fee. This page is about the mechanics: when the money leaves you, what paperwork you get, and what you have to do about it.

It depends on your payment provider

Your ticket money is paid into your own Stripe, SumUp or PayPal account, so our fee has to reach us one of two ways.

Your providerHow our 1% reaches usWhat you do
Stripe, PayPalTaken with each payment, before the money settles to youNothing — it is already paid
SumUpThe full amount settles to you; we invoice the fee afterwardsPay the invoice within 30 days

Nothing else changes between them. The "You keep" figure on your Sales page is the same either way — it just tells you where you end up once any invoice is paid.

If your fee is collected at the point of sale

With Stripe and PayPal there is no invoice, because there is nothing left to pay. Your Sales page shows the amount as Deducted at sale, and you can download a numbered record of it — a fee statement — from that page whenever you need it for your accounts. It states what was collected, who collected it, and that no payment is due.

The record is created the first time you ask for it and stays the same document afterwards. If you sell more tickets later, asking again produces a second record covering just those later sales.

If your fee is invoiced

With SumUp, and for box-office sales taken at the counter, the money reaches you in full and we bill our fee afterwards.

  1. While tickets are on sale. The fee adds up but nothing is taken from your payouts. Your Sales page shows it as Invoiced separately.
  2. Once the event has finished. We raise an invoice for the sales that haven't been billed yet and email it to you. It may cover a single event or a month of them. Refunded tickets carry no fee, so they come off first.
  3. Within 30 days of the invoice date. That is when payment is due, as set out in our Terms of Service. Pay by card from the Invoices page in your dashboard, where the PDF is also available.

The Invoices page shows what is outstanding and flags anything past its due date; so does the Invoicing panel on each event's Sales page.

If you change payment provider partway through

Each order records the provider that took it, so an event sold through two providers is billed the way each order was actually paid. You may end up with both a downloadable record for the part collected at source and an invoice for the rest — that is correct, not a duplicate.

What we never bill you for

  • Your payment provider's own card fee. Stripe, SumUp and PayPal deduct that from each payment before settling to you. It never appears on a BooTickets invoice, and we take no share of it.
  • Free tickets. No payment, no fee.
  • Refunded tickets. The fee on a refunded amount is not charged.

VAT

BooTickets is not currently VAT-registered, so there is no VAT on our 1% and our invoices carry none. VAT on your own ticket sales is a separate matter that depends on your registration — see Pricing.
