Sell at the box office

Sell tickets in person at the door or the counter. Tickets are issued straight away and scan like any other.

Make a sale

  1. Open your event and choose Box office (Sell at the door).
  2. Under Tickets, use + and − to pick how many of each ticket type. On a seated event, choose the seats on the plan instead, then pick a ticket type for each seat.
  3. If your ticket types ask questions, fill in the Attendee details for each ticket.
  4. Under Payment, choose how they're paying:
    • Cash: money into the till.
    • Send to reader: sends the amount to your paired card reader. The screen shows Present card until the buyer pays. Choose Cancel if they change their mind.
    • Card taken separately: you took the payment on your own card machine. Add the receipt number as a Reference if you like.
    • Complimentary: a free ticket. You need to give a Reason (press, guest of the artist and so on).
  5. Enter the buyer's Name. Email is optional.
  6. Choose Take payment (or Issue complimentary ticket).

The next screen shows a QR code for each ticket. If you gave an email address, the buyer also gets a confirmation with a link to their tickets. Without one, there's no email and no link, so ask the buyer to photograph the QR codes before they leave. Choose Next sale to serve the next person.

Who can use it

Account owners and managers can sell at any event. Staff can only sell at events where they've been given the Box office job on the event's Event team page. See Manage your team.

The box office runs in the browser, so a laptop, tablet or phone at the desk is enough. The event must be live, and the tile disappears once the event is over.

Card readers

Send to reader appears when your payment provider supports card readers. Until a reader is paired it's greyed out. A manager can pair one under Account → Payments. If you have more than one, pick it under Which reader.

Refunds

Refund a box office sale from its order, the same way as an online order. For cash and card-taken-separately sales you give the money back yourself and record it. See Issue a refund.

Good to know

  • Online sale dates don't apply. You can sell a ticket type that isn't on sale online yet, or whose online sales have ended. Each ticket type still shows its online status, so you know.
  • Face price only. Early bird discounts and promo codes are for online sales, so the counter charges each ticket type's normal price.
  • No booking fee at the counter. The door price stays round. You pay the BooTickets fee on the sale, as usual. Complimentary tickets carry no fees at all.
  • Questions don't hold up the queue. If a required answer is missing, you're asked once more, and you can choose Skip and sell anyway.
  • House seats. On a seated event, seats you've held back from online sale show in purple. You can still sell them here.
  • Donations aren't sold at the box office.
  • Box office sales count against the same quantities as online sales, so you can't oversell.
